There is a trippy thing about the LDS church – when you start talking to people, you find out you have incredibly close (and random!) associations.
So far, here are the connections we’ve made in Texas to our former lives in Oregon (and beyond):
-
a woman in our Texas ward has a son in my brother-in-law’s Oregon ward (and the son and my BIL live two houses down from each other)
-
a man in our Texas ward has a cousin in the Oregon ward we just moved from!
-
a woman in our Texas ward lived in the same Oregon city as us in 1999
-
a man in our Texas stake has an uncle who gave me an important blessing in our Oregon ward in 1994
-
a woman in our Texas ward is family friends with the man who was president of my husband’s Mexico City mission in 1991-93 (her parents still live across the street from this man – my husband’s former mission president!)
Keep in mind, we’ve only been here a month and a half. I’m sure the more we start talking to people and getting to know them, the more bizarre associations we will discover! It’s amazing that way – no matter WHERE you are, you have the familiarity of the church and its members all around you.
