Talking with Tall People

Last night my husband and I got to go out on our first date in 3 weeks.  We have never been very regular about keeping a “date night,” but when we moved here we noticed that every Friday night on the church’s Stake Calendar was marked DATE NIGHT.  We thought we’d take our priesthood leaders’ advice and start going out!  :)

As the baby has gotten bigger and our oldest daughter has felt more capable, we’ve been able to keep that weekly date and go out to dinner, go shopping, and even go to the temple!  But recently we’ve had various responsibilities or activities interfere with date night, and I’ve been feeling the loss of time alone with my husband and the opportunity to interact with people closer to my height.

This weekend our oldest daughter has been gone on her Pioneer Trek, so it was going to be another Friday night with the kids.  Enter….our friend Dallas!  She called on Thursday and offered to come sit with our kids (and the friend we’ve had here for the weekend) so that hubby and I could go out!  Awesome!

We went out to dinner and then made our way over to Coldstone for dessert.  We ate our ice cream in the plaza of a large outdoor mall here, and we leisurely people-watched in the mild evening air.  It was sooooo pleasant.

When we got back to the house, the kids were all involved in their different activities, and I had to laugh as the three adults – my husband, Dallas, and I – were left to watch Enchanted on our own.  (hey – what can I say?  it’s a cute movie!)  We also had plenty of opportunities to chat, and it was just so nice to feel like a grown up for one evening.

Thank you, Dallas, for thinking of us, and for taking such great care of the kids!!  We really appreciate your generosity!

Now I just need to figure out when H will be unavailable again so that I can volunteer. I had a BLAST and I’m ready for another Friday! We’ll plan it better next time so that part of your date isn’t going to get our dinner! I also insist it be longer than 2 hours! :D

I saw that on the stake calendar too! How funny huh? I’m glad you got to get out and have some quiet time together. Nothing beats it huh?

I honestly appreciate that they thought to put it on the calendar. The same way most stakes or wards will put “Family Home Evening” on the calendar on Monday nights. We *all* need to be reminded to take time for ourselves and each other. sn
