In Deep

My husband has been gone this week; he flies home from Milwaukie this morning.  I’ve been on my own during this first week of school, getting up at 5:30, shuttling kids from one place to another, filling out more dastardly forms, sending every nickle and dime I have to school for thisthatandtheother.  I’ve also managed to fit in two meetings as the new secretary of the junior high’s band booster organization.  Oh, and I’ve whittled off a good handful of my 101 goals – I’ll do an update called “Goal Call” on Sunday.  I’ve been at the top of my game this week, and I am pooped.

So what would any exhausted mom of many do to relax?  Why, sign up to chaperone the high school marching band at tonight’s opening football game, what else?

Aaaaaaarrrghhhhhh.

Of course I want to see my daughter march in her first game.  And of course I want to support the band, which is quickly becoming family.  And of course I couldn’t pass up free entry to the game (especially with tickets at $12/ea!).  But chaperone!?

At least my husband and I will be together.  Which is a very good thing, since I will be needing his support while dealing with (a) 100+ teenagers, (b) the heat and humidity for about 6 hours, (c) the hard stadium seating, and (d) being a bug buffet all night long.

I’m not sure my well runs that deep today, but I’m going to need to draw some energy and enthusiasm from somewhere.  My hope is that the kids’ excitement will be contagious, and that the spectacle of Texas high school football (Friday Night Lights!) will be enough to entertain me during this very. long. night ahead.

We LOVED high school football in Medford growing up. I can only imagine what Texas football looks like. One thing, at least you don’t have to wear the band uniform or the mascot’s! It might be the first time I would envy the cheerleaders, simply because they have such little outfits.

I’m a day late and dollar short as usual, but hope it went well! Just READING this post made me tired — you have been crazy busy. Whew! Read a book or something! :)

    P.S. “Bug buffet” — snort!
