Yule Log Groupie

Ok, for my local friends who have mocked my total ignorance of the “black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day” tradition, I have one question for you:  what is up with NO YULE LOG on any of the Houston area tv channels on Christmas Eve?  I threw a major fit our first Christmas here because I couldn’t find the yule log anywhere!

No, it’s not rumored to bring you luck or good fortune in the New Year to watch some log burn for hours on Christmas Eve, but darn if I don’t love having that channel on while we’re wrapping presents and getting ready for the big festivities.

This past Christmas I was still sad about no yule log on tv, but I did find a fantastic downloadable yule log screensaver from Chicago’s WGN channel.  Those Chicagoans know how to party it up, let me tell you!  Of course I downloaded the screensaver and installed it on the laptop, and we had it out in the living room while we read the story of Christ’s birth from the scriptures and sang carols with our family.  Cheesy?  Yes.  But a tradition I like to call me own?  You bet.

In fact, I like it so much that I still have the yule log on the laptop.  And I still love seeing it there every single day!  I went back to WGN’s website, but I couldn’t find the screensaver anywhere, or else I would give you the link (as it is now, the former link has Valentine’s stuff splashed all over it).  I found a decent video on YouTube, though, and I offer it to you in the spirit of spreading the joy of the yule log to all.  Enjoy.
