Review: FINISH Quantum and JET-DRY Turbo Dry

I feel almost silly for how excited I am about this review. I mean, dishwasher detergent is dishwasher detergent, right? Right? We’ll see.

I recently received a 12-pack of FINISH Quantum for review and quickly began reading through the product’s features on the box. Of course there’s the big red ribbon declaring “#1 Recommended Brand” by companies such as Whirlpool, Maytag, and Bosch. That’s impressive, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I really wanted to know what makes this product different. What will make it work for me? Then I saw it, in smaller print, but still making a bold statement: “SAVE WATER! Scrape your dishes. Don’t rinse. According to Energy Star, rinsing can use up to 20 gallons of water per load. FINISH QUANTUM is designed to do the cleaning so you don’t have to.”

As earth-friendly as our family tries to be, I have to admit: I’m a compulsive dish-rinser. I have always spent long periods of time at the sink, scraping, rinsing, sometimes even unnecessarily scrubbing the dishes, just to somehow ease my mind that they will eventually end up clean enough to eat off again. We’ve often joked that our dishwasher should instead just be called our “sanitizer,” since most of the dish washing had already been done!

But with a toddler who is always at my heels, spending much time at the sink is not so feasible anymore. Dishes pile up, and it gets frustrating. I was very interested in giving this new “no rinse, only scrape” idea a try.

Five loads of scrape-only dishes later, and everything has been FANTASTIC! Let me first tell you the conditions: we have a newer dishwasher, so that may make a difference. I follow recommendations and don’t stack the dishes too tightly, so the water and detergent can get through. I also put the dishes in the dishwasher the same day they were used – no letting them sit overnight and into the next day. So, I can’t promise FINISH Quantum will work on last week’s frying pan you used for scrambled eggs. In fact, I can’t promise you anything, except that since I started using this product, I’ve cut my sink time by at least half. And to think of the water I’ve been saving!

The makers of FINISH Quantum say the reason the detergent works so well is because of three key features: The Powerball (r) with Jet-Dry (r) gives amazing shine, the Powermax ™ bleach attacks tough stains, and the powerful enzymes soften burnt-on food. Each little tablet provides the perfect pre-measured amount of detergent, they fit in all standard dishwasher detergent cups, and they dissolve completely.

Not only have the dishes come out clean for us with every single use, but we haven’t had any of the soap spots left over, either. We can thank the JET-DRY Turbo Dry for that (another product I was able to review)! I had gotten so used to having those spots left over from incomplete drying; more than once I have said to a guest as I’ve handed them their water glass, “Oh, I promise that glass is clean, those are just spots from the dishwasher!” Please tell me I’m not the only one who has ever had to say that! Using the JET-DRY Turbo Dry product has eliminated that awkward moment for me.

In short, FINISH Quantum and JET-DRY Turbo Dry have made me an absolutely happy camper in my kitchen these days. And now you have a chance to try them out for yourself!
