Expect the Unexpected

Our toddler son didn’t go down for a nap until very late this afternoon.  We listened to him chat and chuckle and make funny noises to himself for about 20 minutes before it was clear that he was having none of it in terms of sleeping.  When he started actually shrieking “MAMA MAMA MAMA,” I decided to go in and free him from his comfy, stuffies-laden prison.

I jokingly stormed into the room, grunting, “What do you think you’re -” and was caught completely off guard.  There he was, standing STARK NAKED in his room, grinning up at me.  I immediately started laughing, but stopped when he started saying (with the MOST adorable look of concern on his face) “Ewwwwww.”

Then I saw the large puddle on the floor, where he had clearly peed.  Oh. my. goodness.  Before I could even think to be upset, I was first impressed with his instinct to pee as far away from his bed as possible.  Then I was overwhelmed with the fact that I’M NOT READY TO POTTY TRAIN!  But something tells me he is.

With a toddler, I suppose it’s best to just always expect the unexpected.
