Kajeet‘s slogan, “the cell phone service made 4 kids ™,” is an answer to my prayers. My 15yo daughter has endured the embarrasment of being the only teenager she knows without a cell phone, and I can’t say she’s endured it well. Still, I needed to find something that allowed me to give her the freedom she deserves, but with measurable parameters that we could all understand and agree on.
Kajeet’s services include separate “wallets,” or allowances for plan payments so your child can contribute monetarily to their account. They also offer limits for calls and texts, including WHEN the phone can or can’t be operated, as well as what numbers can or cannot be accepted. And finally, you can select an optional GPS locator to know where your child’s phone is at all times.
Kajeet sent our family a Samsung m300 to review with their services, and my 15yo is over the moon. The phone is fantastic, with great reception and the camera capabilities she was hoping for. There are currently 8 phones you can purchase with kajeet services, from the high-end LG Rumor to the refurbished Motorola C290 (which is now only $16.99!). We are currently on a pay-as-you go plan, which is the more expensive option, with .10 per text and .10/min for calls. We’ll be switching soon to a plan, though, most likely the incredibly affordable $19.99/mo, which includes unlimited texts. What’s great about all these plans is that there is no contract, no application fee, no termination fee, and you can change your plan at any time.
I also want to give a huge thumbs up to kajeet’s online account management system. It’s so easy to access any and all information you might need about your phone and your plan; I just really appreciated being able to find whatever I needed (like a list of texts sent and calls placed, amount left in our “wallet,” options for changing our plan, etc) right at my fingertips.

My favorite thing about Kajeet’s services is that I have some control over how much the phone will be used, who can call and when. I like that it slowly leads your child into responsibility instead of hitting them with it all at once!

#4 is my favorite thing about Kajeet…Our feel-good security features let you decide who can and can’t call their phone.
Plus if I read correctly I can see what texts they have sent and to who.
Tell your daughter that she most certainly is NOT the only teenager without a phone. Both of my boys have been trying to sell me on the idea for quite awhile now. I have stood firm, but it is getting to a point (extra curricular activities) that they need to be able to call me. It used to be that the school was open for kids to call after their activities. That is not always the case now.
Wish me luck…this could make my boys dreams come true!

the idea of controlling the amount of time they spend on the phone appeals to me. I don’t want to ban it all together, but texting and talking every waking hour is ridiculous to my mind. Thanks for the great giveaway. My son would be so pleased to get this for his birthday next month.

Refilling your account is simple. kajeet offers three simple ways to add money to your wallet.
Add a credit/debit card to your account to make refilling easy! You can also set up automatic refills, like giving a $20 allowance per month for your kid to use. We also offer PayPal if you want to use your checking account to add money.

The Kajeet phones are a good compromise for parents and kids. Kids still have a real phone and some choices, but ultimately the parents and control the phone use and monitor calls if necessary.

I learned they have a variety of plans, starting at $4.99 a month. I’d love to have something like this for my mom. She hates cell phones, doesn’t like to talk on one, but I’d like for her to have one in case she has an emergency.
