I think this post will definitely edge me more into the “mommy blogger” vs. “review blogger” category. I mean, do “review bloggers” write posts about poop? Unless some company is selling it, I would have to say no.
My day began more or less with my 11yo daughter yelling, “Mooooom! Eli’s poopy and it’s all over my floor!” She then clarified, “It’s just pouring down his leg!” I scooped him up in what I thought was a defensive enough position, called for the kids to get a towel, get the diapers, get the wipes. One of the funniest moments came when I was lying him down on the towel and my 15yo daughter said, “Uh…you…uh…got some on you, Mom.” Sure enough, the front of my shirt AND shorts were covered with the stuff. I just said, “Well, I didn’t expect that,” and we all started cracking up.
Just like any moment of masterful timing, this all happened as I was heading out the door with my 15yo and 12yo daughters for their tetanus boosters. It took some time to get the situation under control, my toddler in the bath, and head out the door.
We’ve had to change his clothes (just his!) twice more today. I can’t imagine how his tummy might be feeling. He’s hardly eating, but he seems like his normal silly self. He even tried to pick up the cat for the first time today (compared to a sore tummy, the old girl could have really done some serious damage, but she was a good kitty!). I’m trying not to worry too much, but of course I’m now in “eagle eye” mode, trying to watch for any changes, any signs, that might mean something more serious. I’m also mentally reviewing the last four days or so – where’s he been? what has he eaten? Mental fact-checking makes me feel like at least I’m doing something.
I mentioned the girls had their tetanus boosters today. Well, if we had any portion of our 3600 sq ft house dedicated as an infirmary, they’d be in it, too. Tetanus is one painful shot, and they’re both reacting with pain, redness, itching, and just the general “ick” that can come post-injection.
All I know is that my 8yo son and 11yo daughter better tread lightly. For now, they’re not allowed to sneeze or look any shade of peaked. I’m sure they’ll have their turn soon enough.
