Review: Fisher-Price TRIO Basic Building System

There are 6.5 years between our fourth and fifth children – our only two boys.  I’ve sometimes wondered how it will be for them over the years, trying to spend time together and the challenges they might have with different interests and abilities.

Now that our younger son is almost 2, though, he’s old enough to enjoy certain things his older brother loves – including building things!  So when Mom Select and Fisher-Price offered to have our boys review their new Basic Building Set with Storage from the TRIO Basic Building System, I was really excited!

Fisher-Price TRIO Building Set

The set recommends itself to children 3-5 years old, but our boys fall just below and just over this age range at 2yo and 8yo.  And they both still love it!  The system is made up of interlocking bricks, sticks, and panels and comes with a variety of creative building suggestions.  The bricks lock easily into each other, though sometimes the sticks take a bit of muscle.  The panels and specific components (tree, car, helicopter propeller, and little man) add a lot of personality.

While the 2yo primarily enjoyed playing with the car and little man and a few of the bricks, the 8yo really had fun looking through the enclosed idea booklet and creating what he found there.  I appreciated that the ideas in the booklet are easy to execute – it made my 8yo feel incredibly successful (and proud!) when he was able to put something together exactly like they showed it in the booklet.

TRIO Creation

What’s unique about the TRIO Basic Building System is that it’s just the beginning – as your child ages and wants more challenges, you can add to the set with products from the TRIO City line (4-7yrs) and TRIO Castle line (5-9), as well other available accessory kits.

Right now Fisher-Price is offering a $5 coupon off the purchase price of a TRIO building set.  Click the coupon below for more information.

My only sibling is 11 years older than me, so we didn’t spend alot of time playing together when I was young. I do have a few fond memories of playing his Atari with him on Christmas! lol

My sister and I loved roller skating. Our house had a large concrete driveway that sloped all the way to the road. I bet we skated 100,000 miles…lol. Thanks!

Dumping our entire Barbie collections into a pile on floor, and then taking turns picking out each piece for a new collection, for the rest of the week. That way we never were bored with the clothes and shoes.

My sister and I used to enjoy playing board games, but I learned quickly never to play Monopoly with her. She would ALWAYS get bored and quit just as I was getting into the game.
