4 Years Until 40

I’m 36 today!  Yippee!!!!

(so is my twin sister….Happy Birthday, Jenny Jen-Jen!!)

I love my birthday, and I think I always will.  Because of this, I sometimes forget that other people are really sensitive about “that day.”  I once surprised a friend of mine at a meeting with an announcement and cake to celebrate her birthday (which was that night).  I don’t even know how old she was turning – somewhere in her 50′s maybe? – but she was NOT HAPPY about the attention, and I know it had something to do with her age.  As if any of us there – who were all her good friends – cared a whit about her age.  We just wanted to celebrate HER!

Anyway, yes, I’m closer to 40 than 30, I have gray hairs galore, my metabolism is slowing and most of my kids’ teachers are younger than me.

SO WHAT!

It’s my birthday!  Woo hoo!  I slept in, am hanging out with the kids on a gloriously gray and rainy day in Houston (so rare!), my husband is shopping for the ingredients for an apple streusel cheesecake (my choice), and later our family is heading to Houston’s Museum of Natural Science.  We’ll have a very simple BBQ of hot dogs tonight, and I really hope we play some family card games.

Another birthday means another year of being alive, right?  That’s something to celebrate, no matter how old you are.  Happy Birthday to my twin and I!
