My Find: The myPC Stage 1 Toddler Keyboard {Review}

Traditionally here at Tree, Root, and Twig, I write spotlights, reviews, and giveaways on products that companies approach me about and that I find relevant to our family’s needs and interests.  Periodically, though, I find products on my own that I would love to share, too.  Hence, I’m starting a new category called “My Find.”

My first “My Find” is a product I am very excited about.  Because if you have one of these:

Yo yo yo, what up?

and one of these:

family desktop

you might understand the stress that ensues when the two come together.

My 2yo son has known his alphabet for a couple of months now, and it seems like once that floodgate of knowledge opened, so did his need to interact with the letters.  I found a handful of great websites that allow him to “play” with the alphabet, but without fail he would get distracted by the extraneous keys on the keyboard and mess up the game.

I did an internet search for “toddler keyboard” and found this product – Targeted Technology SolutionsmyPC Stage 1 Toddler Keyboard.

I wrote to the company, and they were kind enough to send me the product for review so I could share it with my readers!

If I could shout from the rooftops how much I love this product, I would.  It is FANTASTIC.

They’ve eliminated all the function keys, the punctuation keys (except for the period, so you can still type in web addresses), the Windows key (hallelujah – my son presses that ALL the time!), and more.  The focus is on letters (which are color-coded between vowels and consonants) and numbers (which are also color-coded), and a few other essentials.

It has proved very durable, has big chunky keys for my son’s little fingers, and it comes with a mouse that is just the right size for his hand.  It’s simple to use – plug it right into your computer, no software necessary.  My older kids were concerned that it might not “work” for what they needed, but for the most part, they are able to use it to surf the web (and when they need the old keyboard back, it’s super easy to switch out).

The removable cover allows you to easily disassemble the keyboard and actually put the top into the DISHWASHER!  I sat for a few minutes and followed the very simple directions for this and found it to be a painless process.

I double-checked everything after putting it back together, and it works just like before!

If you plan to literally be at your child’s side every time they use the computer, then perhaps this isn’t an essential item for you.  But I know that I like to open up a Word document, set the font to 20pt, and let my little guy go to town on typing out his letters while I get a few things done nearby.  This keyboard has allowed me to do that with MUCH less stress, and honestly, he loves the look and feel of it.  I highly recommend this product if you’re interested in giving your toddler/preschooler the freedom they want on the computer with the peace of mind you want while they’re on it.

SPECIAL NOTE:  The myPC Stage 1 Toddler Keyboard is the brainchild of Elizabeth Tarpley, President and CEO of Targeted Technology Solutions, LLC.  As amazing as this product is, I think Elizabeth’s story of invention and entrepreneurship is even more inspiring.  Read about Elizabeth on her blog, Ramblings from My Journey as a Business Owning Techie Mom.

Wow, I had never even thought of anything like that. My son isn’t old enough for it yet, but I will definitely keep it in mind for the future. Thanks for sharing!

Okay LOVE that. It goes in the dishwasher? Thats amazing. the only thing I might ask is they make one with less colors so my kid thinks its mine. I’m sure he just wants to touch my stuff. LOL.

Man, I need one of those!

The DIva wants to use my PC all the time, but I won’t let her since she screwed some stuff up once.
