Dove’s “Thank You for Making a Difference” Campaign {Spotlight}

fundlogo

As part of Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty, the Self-Esteem Fund was established with the goal of bringing self-esteem education, awareness, and workshops to 5 million girls globally by 2010.  Every Dove product purchased helps add to the Fund, and this Fall, Dove is taking a moment to tell their consumers:  “Thank You for Making a Difference.”

During this Holiday season, Dove will be making a $1,000 donation to a national charity that supports self-esteem on behalf of all those who have supported the Fund.  In addition, from now through December 15, you can directly support the work of the Self-Esteem Fund by entering Dove UPCs at this link; for every UPC entered, Dove will donate $1* to the charity of your choice – either Girls Scouts, Boys and Girls Club of America, or Girls Inc.  (*total donations not to exceed $500,000)

Inspired by the message behind Dove’s Self-Esteem Fund, I took a chance to sit down with my three daughters – 11, 13, and 15 – to ask them about the different ways self-esteem impacts their lives:

Though all you see are snippets in the video, it really was an incredibly thoughtful conversation we had.  I was most surprised by what my daughters had to say about how family affects self-esteem.  The common teasing and banter that happens between siblings can sometimes really hurt, as well as when parents let negative comments slip.  Conversely, any praise or encouragement family members give can really go a long way.

    My mom was the one who made a huge difference in my life and built up my self esteem. She always let us know how special we all were and I love her for that. Thank you so much!

    My grandmother, who I lived with off and on until I was 12, she helped me focus on my strong points and helped me strengthen them. I stuttered badly when I was younger and she encouraged me to join a speech teach to help with my stuttering and shyness around people.

    I have had so many people in help me in this area that it’s hard to choose just one. My grandpa though is the one person in my life who I NEVER heard say anything to or about me that could be considered negative. He thought I was wonderful, and told me so frequently. I was lucky to have a lot of positive people in my life when I was at an easily impressionable age, and now I try to pay it forward to others I come in contact with.

    There are so many people who have helped me build my self-esteem. My mom has been and continues to help me. My sweet daughter is constantly letting me know how wonderful I am. I have also had those sweet friendships throughout my life that have contributed to assisting me in developing, repairing and maintaining my self-esteem.

    The person who boosted my self-esteem the most was my best friend – my mom. Since she passed away, I have lost the biggest supporter that I ever had. I have faced a very tough year due to poor health and will be facing two surgeries within the next month. I could really use a boost in my self-esteem right now.

    Thank you,

    Christine W
