ourWorld: The Social Gaming Sphere on Yoursphere

Yoursphere Test Drive

Since becoming a Test Drive Mom for Yourspherea social networking site for kids and teens, I’ve seen my 11yo daughter’s enthusiasm for the site infect my 13yo daughter and 9yo son.  Now they all have accounts and enjoy surfing through the different interest-based spheres, as well as spending time in Yoursphere’s social gaming corner called ourWorld.

The ourWorld community is private and open to verified Yoursphere members only.  Kids create unique avatars, get their own condo to decorate, interact with others on the Yoursphere site, visit different locations in ourWorld (like the beach, the skating rink, or Cake Mania), and play games in the arcade.  Here’s what it looks like when my 11yo daughter signs into her ourWorld:

As you allow your avatar to interact with others, visit new places, or play games in the arcade, it increases your “flow.”  “Flow” accumulates until your avatar “levels up,” at which point you are able to do more things – like further customize your avatar with new clothes or accessories, buy more decor for your condo, and even open up new destinations to visit in ourWorld.

My kids have enjoyed the ability to interact with their Yoursphere friends (and each other! - one will get on the laptop and one will get on the computer, and they’ll “hang out” together online.) in a secure environment, and visiting all the different scenes in ourWorld.  They’ve also spent some time playing the many arcade games, including Bejeweled.
