One of the reasons this road trip is taking an entire month is because we will be seeing each and every close member of BOTH sides of our family. All the brothers, all the sisters, nearly all of the kids’ cousins, both sets of grandparents, even some old friends, godparents, aunts and uncles, cousins of our own, and high school friends thrown into the mix. We just couldn’t bear to leave anyone out!
We had a sweet moment during our current stay in Sonoma, CA when the oldest grandson on my side met the youngest grandson. The oldest is my sister April’s son, the youngest is my own Eli. Eli has had a hard time warming up to anyone on this trip; I think maybe he’s just feeling unsettled and confused by so many changes. But my nephew is a gentle soul, and took his time getting into Eli’s good graces. After a few hours together at the park, they were good pals.

We may just be “passing through” all these places, but I sure am loving the memories we are making, and hope we’re planting seeds the kids can tend to over time.
