CLOSED: Back to School with STAPLES and DoSomething.org {Spotlight & Giveaway}

Back to School season is really more of a marathon than a sprint.  Even if school has already started for you, chances are you’re still collecting items from the teacher’s wish-list, or tracking down supplies you couldn’t find on your first (or second, or third) time out.

I’ve always thought the STAPLES: that was easy tagline was particularly clever, and STAPLES was often a critical Back to School stop when we lived conveniently close to one.

Recently, MomSelect approached me with the opportunity to spotlight the good that STAPLES is doing with the organization DoSomething.org, and to offer a $25 gift card giveaway to my readers.  Given my own positive experiences with the store, I was happy to jump onboard!

DoSomething.org is a site dedicated to “using the power of online to get teens to do good stuff offline” through a variety of causes and campaigns.  STAPLES and DoSomething.org have combined to run a Do Something 101 School Supply Drive.

The Do Something 101 campaign encourages teens to collect school supplies and drop them off at their nearest Staples® store from July 4 through September 18. Staples is kick-starting the campaign by donating more than $125,000 in school supplies to the cause. Staples customers can also get involved by donating $1 at any Staples store, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting local students in need. All school supplies and donations will be given to educational and not-for-profit organizations that serve disadvantaged youth.

STAPLES has also created a line of Do Something school supply products to support the cause and create more awareness among teens.  We were sent a selection of these products to review, and from the Glam Rocks Collection to the Zip It pencil case and comp books, planners, and notebooks, our kids loved them all.

    I have to replace folders most frequently- they don’t make things like they used to and it seems like they rip after just a few weeks of use.

    The item that we seem to go through the most is single subject theme books. They need one for each subject and they tend to fill up quickly.

    Notebook Paper. We have 2 teenagers, and usually buy 10 packages of notebook paper at the beginning of the school year and have to buy more in January. This year, we bought 20 packages.

    The usual paper and pencils are the main thing we have to buy all year. Crayons are also a big one that we have to get often. Thank you!

    Markers and crayons go the quickest. For some reason, caps get left off of markers and crayons get broken.

    I will also have to replenish notebooks often.

    My kids are little, so they don’t seem to use up all their supplies, but I’ll be darned if we can find a sharpened pencil each day at homework time….and they are always losing their little pencil sharpeners.

    My kids always seem to run out of paper. Some of the reason is that they are always giving some to their friends.
