Spotlight on Children’s Books: Doyle and Fossey, Science Detectives {with link to Giveaway}

holiday gift ideasI’m including the children’s books series Doyle and Fossey, Science Detectives in my 2010 Holiday Gift Ideas because I always believe in giving books as gifts to kids.  And if you know a child like mine, it’s likely they’ve already read through every series in their home, and it’s time to look for something new.  Check out the links below for reviews of this series to see if it might do the trick!  Also check out the author’s giveaway to win or give two books in the series!

I was recently tipped off to author Michele Torrey‘s mystery series for kids called Doyle and Fossey, Science Detectives.  Geared toward readers in grades 3-6, the books have received sound praise from the School Library Journal:

Move over, Encyclopedia Brown-Doyle and Fossey have arrived. Drake Doyle is the scientist while Nell Fossey is the one with the detective skills. This amusing duo solves four cases quickly and efficiently by scientific deduction. Each story is complete in two chapters. Humor abounds, most of it tongue-in-cheek, which most kids love. While the two protagonists are multidimensional, many of the secondary characters are stereotypical, sometimes on purpose, such as the Beauty Princess Extraordinaire. The black-and-white halftones and line drawings have the right touch of zaniness. As an added bonus, there are instructions for the experiments that were used to solve the mysteries.

A number of bloggers have reviewed various books in the series as well.  Here are just a few:

Michele Torrey is hosting a giveaway where FOUR (4) winners will each receive two books from her seriesThe Case of the Crooked Carnival and The Case of the Terrible T.rexalong with a test tube kit.  The giveaway is open to addresses in the US and Canada, and ends 11/18.  See her site for more details.

*Disclosure:  I received no review item or other compensation for this post.  I heard of this series through the author’s representatives and as a huge supporter of books for kids, I decided to share with my readers.  There are Amazon affiliate links included in this post.
