Welcome to the first official post of the Many Branches, One Tree project at Tree, Root, and Twig! I’m excited to be kicking it off with a special feature on Jennifer from MommyB Knows Best.
Jennifer and I have known each other online for a little while now, and I was SO lucky to room with her recently at Bloggy Boot Camp in Atlanta.
She has a sweet, energetic spirit about her, is incredibly warm, and is very knowledgeable about blogging and social media. I have a huge respect for the work she does online, but more important, the careful attention she gives to raising her beautiful daughters and sustaining a strong marriage.
Here’s our chance to connect with Jennifer and get to know her a little better…
Where do you live (or nearest metro)? Charlotte, NC
What is your blog called? MommyB Knows Best http://www.mommybknowsbest.com
Do you contribute to any other blogs or sites online? I founded and run TheCharlotteMoms.com and have 5 staff members. We’re local resource for parents and Christian moms.
How long have you been online? How long have you been blogging? I’ve been online since high school so I guess early 90′s and I started my personal/family blog in 2007 but started blogging “professionally” in the Fall of September ’09
What are 3 things readers can expect from your blog? Honesty, I’m totally myself when I’m writing. Information, I write mostly about things I think my readers and parents/caregivers would care about. Reliability, because I’m a stay-at-home mom to little girls who are mostly home 24/7, I stay up very late and put my heart into my work. I want my readers to know they can count on me to be there when they have questions or need help.
Is there a particular “niche” you identify most with online? I definitely am a Product Review blog, with a hodgepodge twist. I write about different things on my site, and even host amazing guest bloggers who write about all sorts of things.
What are 3 other blogs you love or read on a regular basis? Oh gosh, picking 3 is very very hard. For entertainment sake I love reading cakewrecks.com. Because she’s awesome I adore bakerella.com and I know she’d be like “whhaaaat?” if she knew, but I love reading mamakatslosingit.com, she’s a girl after my own heart. I love being crazy and silly in a fun way, but don’t really feature that on my site. She inspires me to have fun with my site, and honestly I don’t know how she runs a day care, is a wife and mom, and blogs too. Also she gives amazing tips for writers, I attended one of her sessions at SITS Bloggy Bootcamp and got a lot out of it.
What does your family think of your blog? My husband is the one who introduced me to blogging, he has several sites himself, and my girls don’t know anything different since I started our family/personal blog right after I gave birth to my oldest.
What are some of your hobbies besides blogging? I love going on play dates and hanging out with my daughters, I enjoy organizing anything{crazy I know, it just makes me feel warm inside}, I love planning birthdays and events, and spending quality time with friends.
Do you work outside of blogging? Yes, but it’s related to blogging/writing. What do you do? I freelance and am a brand ambassador for a couple of companies, and I also volunteer some social media for my daughter’s school.
Name an experience you’ve had (good or bad) that might have never happened if not for your blogging/online activity. I’ve had the blessing of being able to write for non-profits like CaringBridge, 46Mommas, St. Jude’s and I feel it an honor and a great responsibility to be able to share on my platform.
What are 3 things you would notmiss if you stopped blogging tomorrow? I would not miss having deadlines, I would not miss staying up late at to work, and I would not miss people not valuing what I do as a legitimate job.
What are 3 things you would miss if you stopped blogging tomorrow? I would miss the readers who sincerely comment and follow my site, I would miss the outlet my site gives me to relate to other parents, I would miss fun opportunities and all of the amazing people I have had the opportunity to know and meet.
What’s the nicest thing someone has said about you as a blogger, your blog itself, or your online activity? I am always in awe when people write me or come to me telling me that I have inspired them to do certain things, whether it’s blogging or doing something in the parenting realm, it’s very flattering to have someone “want to be like you.” However, the glory is not mine. I would not have any of the opportunities I have been given if not for my Heavenly Father.
