Blog Policies & Practices

To My Readers
:

I always disclose if compensation is received for a post.  It is rare that you will find an overly negative review on my site, mostly because I am selective with what I choose to review and typically only agree to review products I anticipate I will like anyway (don’t want to waste anyone’s time, you know).  Having said that, I am totally honest in my reviews and do share any weaknesses/challenges that I perceive in the product.

I may choose to spotlight or promote products or services because of an existing relationship with a company or the pr firm which represents them. Again, I will always be transparent in my decisions and motives for these posts, and reiterate that I will be honest in the opinions expressed.

I want to genuinely thank you for coming here.  I appreciate your time and readership!

To Companies/PR:

If your company values the health, wellness, education, learning, style, safety, or wholesome entertainment of children and families, then we may be a great fit, for these are all the things I’m passionate about with my own family. Please consider the following before contacting me:

I am happy to receive pitches to review your product. But please bear in mind: review items are those sent with no established expectations or requirements from the company. The onus will be on me to publish or not, keeping the review unbiased and as a matter of principle, unpaid. Having said that, if in the course of our communication I propose certain terms for how/when the product will be reviewed, I will be held to that.

The exceptions to “no expectations/no requirements” on review items include: tickets to concerts or events, and travel-related comps or discounts. Receipt of these items implies an agreement on my part to publish content on said concert, event, or travel-related destination or activity. In all cases, content will still reflect my honest, unbiased opinions.

I am also happy to receive pitches for marketing efforts, which are any actions beyond reviewing a product that a company would like me to perform. These actions might include: covering certain talking points provided by the company, including links provided by the company, and broadcasting the published post to my followers on Facebook and Twitter. I charge for marketing efforts, and will communicate with companies individually on the required rate.

[NOTE: for helpful information on the difference between a review and a marketing effort, read: Brands, Bloggers, and Money, or Bloggers Are Promotional Partners.]

I am always interested in talking with companies about opportunities to work as a brand ambassador or spokesperson, or provide services in exchange for conference sponsorships.

I do not regularly publish sponsored posts about a website, product, or service, but may consider it. Please contact me to discuss.

I DO NOT reprint press releases.
